What makes us different?

With so many advice firms out there, all saying similar things, it can be difficult to cut through the jargon to what really matters.

  • We try to communicate in a straight-forward manner, using language that doesn’t require an MBA in finance to understand.

We try to avoid the superfluous technical nonsense, whilst still providing you with enough information to make informed decisions.

  • Let’s be honest. The financial advice profession has had a chequered past. There’s been a tendency to push products without properly understanding clients’ needs first.

As financial planners we believe it’s important to be clear on the WHY before discussing the HOW. We will never, ever try to sell you a financial product.

  • We provide independent financial advice.

Surprisingly, this is not something we’re asked about often. It may not seem that important. But it is - having the freedom and flexibility to do what we think is right for each of our clients is fundamental to the service we offer.

  • We take a ‘systematic’ approach to investing based on empirical evidence and academic research.

We believe that investment markets are broadly ‘efficient’ (which means that stock prices reflect all available information). Therefore consistently beating the market through market timing or stock selection is very difficult (and statistically improbable), particularly over long periods of time.

We therefore prefer to focus on ‘asset allocation’ and ‘diversification’ (the combination, quantity and type of investments) when selecting portfolios which, evidence suggests, is more important for determining investment outcomes.

  • All our advice is delivered by a Chartered Financial Planner, the gold standard for technical competence and commitment to professionalism in financial planning.

A senior business development professional with a successful track record in developing and implementing corporate strategies within the financial services sector.

  • Tim is Managing Director of Albion Strategic Consulting; a tight-knit group of people who are passionate about investing, and on occasion border on the ‘nerdy’ side of things. They work with over 70 top Financial Planning firms across the UK (and abroad) who have combined assets of over £18bn under management. They find investment matters ‘interesting’ to a level not always shared by others! However, they always try to keep things as simple as they can be to help us communicate what at times can be complex topic areas.

Albion are an independent third party investment consultancy and sit as guest members on our Investment Committee, they assist us in putting in place a robust investment proposition and our ongoing governance process to make sure that we: stay on top of, challenge and, where necessary, help us refine our process over time.

Tim read Zoology at Oxford, and after a four-year stint in Hong Kong with Standard Chartered, undertook an MBA. He then joined Chase Asset Management, which is now part of JP Morgan Asset Management, working in various roles in London, Hong Kong, and New York for almost a decade before setting up Albion in 2001.

“Daniel helped me understand my range of financial matters and helped map out a simple plan. He’s very easy to work with and I have already connected him with a number of my friends who were looking for someone they can trust. If you’re thinking you want someone to bounce idea around with then I’d highly recommend.”

Laurence F

“Informative. Trustworthy. Helpful. Dan has helped me set up investments for the future. Dan paid a great deal of attention to my personal and professional circumstances before recommending both specific products for me and setting out a long term strategy. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in the financial future.”
